I’ve spent a few minutes on Facebook recently because FB Marketplace. Compared to Oppo, FB is a pretty unruly place full of strangers —
friends of friends
— talking past each other. Even when we’re being silly here on Oppo, we are more thoughtful. I don’t know why Mark Zuckerberg is such a force, or why so many people are in a position to be duped by people on Facebook. Facebook should be called

I can happily say I have no idea what you’re talking about. I dropped facebook over a decade ago and have never looked back...though technically I have my foot in their door with Instagram.

Facebook is big because so many people are there. It’s the new/current town square
. If the majority of your family/friends/acquaintances use it, and that’s where they share info and communicate, you’re out of the loop if you’re not there (and some people are fine with that).

My wife has the family account with about 10 friends, all of them personal friends and/or church volunteers and associates. We keep it very close to the vest. No friends from HS and college or anything like that.
The most useful thing for FB is being able to sell random $5-$20 items to these people with simple “dead drops” at each other’s mailboxes or doorsteps. No fees, no hassles, no strangers. I’ve come to realize that’s like 80% of what our local moms do. It’s an entire black market.

Still a proud Never Facebooker. However, Mrs. Ttyymmnn has made a login simply to view stuff for the boy’s marching band. She does not post. Interesting to see who FB thinks she should be talking too, though. Very odd tangential relationships.

I have two accounts. One for close friends and friends much further afield and the other for a couple of people on here.
Both have a library of cars I’ve done where the first one also has stuff from other things going on, etc...

I also am a FB outsider. My wife follows family and some friends but doesn’t post. What I always wondered was how the big shift from MySpace to FB happened. The FB interface is cumbersome and offers no appeal that I can see.
I tried to explain ALF to my daughter a few weeks ago. She was appalled at the idea of an alien character that eats cats as a delicacy. She wondered how he ever got a sitcom.

There’s a good fintail group on fb, and a couple other car/hobby groups I occasionally read. Otherwise, no value save for the reincarnation of the Craigslist junkyard in marketplace, and to see if my sister has posted any new pics of her family dogs.

I just got FB not long ago. I’ve kept it to only family and close friends. I mostly use it like a forum as I’ve added numerous van pages.
It’s definitely not something I need though. Sometimes I go weeks without even looking at it and nothing of value is lost.
I don’t understand the people who can’t live without it.

I used to hate Facebook but have come around to it in the last year or so. Marketplace is great, finding events is really useful, and their are some really cool car design/ build groups. There are a few community news/watch groups that are useful too. You just have to find groups that have strong mods that won’t accept shit in the comments.
I haven’t posted anything on my own page in 8 years or so, so it’s basically like reading a blog to me.
Also the Oppositetalk Facebook group is terrible.

Exactly... so many local groups / businesses use it around here instead of a website, you kind of have to go there for information. You don’t have to interact with the crazies, but it’s the only source of info for a lot of stuff around here.

FB marketplace got popular once CL started charging for car ads, but people don’t know that cars.com is free :o)

Tangential. I keep track of people in PA by stalking them periodically on FB. It’s the only way I learn anything since they don’t even announce births.

Paint: I hope I am not being a nuisance. Stop me before I do...
Do you thin with Mineral Spirits? Some on YouTube thin with Acetone. What ratio did you use?
How long did you go between coats on your Black Voyager?
The satin sheen black is a look these days, rat rod and all. Do you think very many of those are also sprayed with Rusto?
There’s no reason I couldn’t mix some black and some white to make a gray that I liked, is there?
I’m going to do some practicing on the car as it is before I attempt the camouflage. I’ll probably also replace the damaged body panels up front before I tackle the Dazzle.

1. I used Acetone. It was close to a 2:1 ratio. I basically just thinned it until it was easily sprayable.
2. I just wait until the paint gets tacked up good, then move on to the next coat, it usually only takes maybe 15 mins.
3. I have no idea how many are sprayed with Rusto.
4. I wouldn’t see it being an issue so long as they were both the same type of paint.
Definitely practice spraying some things before you move on to the car. I would suggest spraying the lighter color first, then taping it off once it’s cured, then spraying the black.

There are other colors. I could use blue and white and mix an approximation of the GM blue that is Rusty. Practice on the Vic, then paint Rusty later. Spraying the Rustoleum really opens up many practical possibilities.
